Yves Saint Laurent Fall 1987 Skirt

An iconic piece from Yves Saint Laurent’s most glamorous era, this gold moiré mini-skirt is from Fall 1987. Cut in a sharply high-waisted silhouette, the skirt showcases moiré fabric with rippling, light-catching movement. It is tailored to a high-wait, above-knee style and is detailed with angular welt pockets to emphasise the curves of the body. The skirt is lined with tonal gold satin. It fastens at the left side of the waist with a hidden zip and hidden hook-and-eye clasp.

Moiré, historically reserved for court dress and ceremonial finery, enjoyed a dramatic revival in the mid-1980s. On the runway, the look was styled with one of my personal favourite YSL combinations: a richly embellished, cropped gold jacket and a wrap-around sash belt in baby blue recalling obi and cummerbund traditions.
