Thierry Mugler Fall 1998 Skirt Suit

£995.00

This cream wool suit from Thierry Mugler’s Fall 1998 collection exemplifies the designer’s mastery of tailoring. Mugler’s suits were among his most iconic creations, engineered to sculpt the body into an hourglass ideal.

This particular example stands out for its unusual cable-knit detailing at the collar and pockets, a softer twist on Mugler’s futuristic vision that hints at traditional artisan craftsmanship. Cable-knit was a recurring motif in Mugler collections throughout the 1990s, used to sculpt slinky semi-sheer maxi-dresses and body-hugging tops. The jacket is crafted from cream worsted wool and closes with two fabric-covered buttons at the front. The lapels, cuffs and patch pockets are trimmed in cable-knit wool. The jacket is cut to cinch the waist in the way that only Mugler can, and the back forms a peplum that exaggerates the shape of the hips. The skirt is a high-waist mini-skirt with a panel of cream cable-knit down the front. It fastens at the back with a tonal zip and snap closure on Mugler's signature angled tab. Both pieces are lined in tonal satin throughout.
