Jil Sander x Raf Simons Spring 2009 Dress

£595.00

From Raf Simons’s modernist Spring 2009 collection for Jil Sander, this chocolate-brown shift dress embodies the season’s exploration of precision. Minimalist and clean from the front, the silhouette reveals its drama at the back, where two dense, luxurious swathes of soft fringe cross elegantly, creating movement and sculptural texture.

A refined interpretation of 1920s-inspired fringing - filtered through Simons’s signature restraint - this piece captures the collection’s balance of sleek tailoring and experimental detail. As Simons said at the time, "Jil Sander must always be pure, and I'm aware of making any reference [to the 1920s] minimal, but I also want to show my freedom to be inspired by the moment." As ever with Raf, the tailoring is impreccable. An elegant, highly flattering shift-dress with a graceful boat-neck, it is tailored from chocolate brown crepe and lined with a luxurious silk-mix satin. It fastens with a hidden tonal zip under the left arm.

Miranda Kerr wore a fringed dress from this collection to the 2009 Met Gala, spawning a thousand knock-offs, the likes of which Pretty Little Thing and Boohoo are still churning out now.
