Christian Dior x Raf Simons Fall 2013 Skirt Suit

This black bouclé wool Bar jacket and skirt suit from Christian Dior’s Fall 2013 collection exemplifies Raf Simons’ refined reinterpretation of one of the house’s most iconic silhouettes. First introduced in 1947 as part of Dior’s revolutionary New Look, the original Bar jacket redefined postwar femininity with its sculpted waist and flared hips. Simons’ version pays homage while introducing modern fluidity. Cut with a lower scoop neckline and double-breasted closure that sit at the waist, Simons softens the classic structure without losing its precision.

Crafted from a highly textured bouclé woven from a mix of wool, alpaca and angora, the fabric lends depth and tactility to the streamlined tailoring. Paired with a high-waisted, softly pleated skater skirt with a fringe bottom hem, the ensemble captures Simons’ ability to balance Dior’s heritage with contemporary ease. Vogue decided that Simons had danced with the devil in making this collection, and won. Of his interpretation of the Bar jacket, they wrote "in one fell swoop an ironclad fashion icon surrendered to the moment." The jacket closes with two hidden snap closures and the skirt with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye on the left hip. Both the jacket and skirt are lined in black silk.
