This opulent black dress from Emilio Pucci’s Fall 2011 collection reflects Peter Dundas’s shift toward a more refined, decadent vision for the house. It walked the runway on supermodel Abbey Lee. Crafted from thick, inky black wool, the design sculpts an hourglass silhouette that hugs the body, balanced by a high neckline with a subtle Eastern influence. As Vogue observed, “Peter Dundas gave the hippie-deluxe look he’s made his signature during his two years at Emilio Pucci the old heave-ho,” turning instead to inspirations drawn from hunters; Tyrolea; winter palaces; Romy Schneider as Sissi; and Dior jeweler Victoire de Castellane.”

Exquisite detailing lends the piece a rich, demi-couture feel, embodying Dundas’s fascination with sensuality and decadence. It is truly some of the most spectacular beadwork we've seen in ready-to-wear. Glittering bronze-gold embroidery, metalwork, beadwork and sequins form flowers and vines which climb the body. At the rear, the back is open, and the same embroidery surrounds the opening and covers the high collar. The sleeve holes, open back and neck hole are trimmed in layers of delicate black tulle with pretty, raw edges. The dress is fully lined in black satin. It fastens at the back of the neck with three elaborate, engraved gold-tone buttons and fabric loops. It also fastens down the centre back with an exposed gold-tone zip with logo-engraved pull.

This dress was preceded by the Emilio Pucci dress that Beyoncé wore to the 2011 Met Gala. Her gown was detailed with similar gold beadwork and embroidery, raw edges and a high-neckline.
