Terence Nolder 1980s Dress
British designer Terence Nolder was best known for his high-octane, glamorous eveningwear collections, characterised by luxurious fabrics and bold, decorative patterns that helped define the style of the 1980s. Nolder won the British Eveningwear Designer Award in 1980 and the British Designer of the Year Award in 1981, and worked under Alfred Radley at Quorum.
This playful dress dates to the 1980s, an early example of a silhouette much-loved by celebrities and designers today. It features two large cut-outs bedecked with bows - a provcative balance of sensuality and girlishness. With a basque waist on one side, it can be worn either way around. Gucci's Resort 2019 collection featured a dress in the same silhouette which was worn by Alexa Chung to the AnOther Magazine X Prada Party during Paris Fashion Week the same year.
