Miu Miu Fall 2014 Skirt

This pastel metallic quilted brocade mini-skirt from Miu Miu's Fall 2014 collection captures Miuccia Prada’s irreverent play with contrasts - glamour for the everyday. The piece is crafted from a baby pink, silver and bronze brocade - woven from Lurex, wool and mohair and quilted to create texture and volume - that shimmers mint green with movement. Originally shown on the runway as part of a dress and across coats and jackets, it was later produced as a playful mini-skirt for stores, embodying Miu Miu’s spirit of wearable fantasy.

As Vogue noted, the models “exploded into quilted brocades that looked to have Lurex running through them,” marking one of the show’s most striking visual moments. Prada herself described the collection with characteristic irony: “Normality is weird.” Presented inside the Palais d’Iéna, transformed with plastic sheeting and scaffolding in a deliberate clash of utilitarian and opulent, the collection paired windbreakers with metallic brocade, and raincoats with glitter. This skirt perfectly encapsulates that tension. Tailored to a very mini length, it has a stiff, cocooning shape with a high-waistband. It is lined with beautiful stone-hued satin. It fastens at the left hip with a hidden peach zip and hook-and-eye clasp.
