Gucci Fall 2008 Trousers
These elegant, milk chocolate brown trousers were created as part of the brand’s Fall 2008. Models stormed the runway dressed, as Vogue described, to the “rock chick deluxe” vision of Creative Director Frida Giannini. They are part disco-pant, part-jodhpur, part-legging, part-skinny trouser. The gold hardware set against thick, ribbed stretch-cotton in milk chocolate brown is oh-so-Gucci and marks these trousers as quite undefinable in terms of era. They hark back to Guccio Gucci’s early fascination with equestrian gear in the 1930s, via the jodhpurs Tom Ford designed for the brand in the ‘90s, and end in something rock-and-roll and unique to Frida Giannini’s commercially successful reign. The use of the 1934 Gucci logo on the brass button and the brass horsebit D-ring on the belt loop also reference the details from Gucci’s founding years, and demonstrate Giannini’s canny use of the brand’s archives as a reference.
Made in Italy, they have a flattering high-waist cut with two welt pockets at the front of the hips and one at the rear. The legs are trimmed with knee pads in darker brown suede. The legs are zipped close at the back of the ankle with logo-embossed gold zips. The fabric has some stretch.
